Martinsburg Farmers Market Branding

Collaboration builds community

Hersick+Webster worked with many community partners to reinvent the Farmers Market downtown Martinsburg WV.

While surrounded by a rich agricultural heritage, the city is actually considered a food desert. Through our work with the Promise Neighborhood Initiative (PNI) and What’s Next WV, Berkeley County, we identified the need to bring a revitalized market to the downtown community.

We built a collaborative model with PNI, Healthy Berkeley County, Main Street Martinsburg and others in the community. We were also able to to implement a SNAP Incentive program at the market through our work with WV FresHealthy Bucks .

This is a great example of how we love to work. Lots of different folks are coming together to add there strengths and passions. Together we are building something that creates economic, individual and cultural impacts.

This is just the start

The market is at the center of our efforts to build healthier lives and a healthier community.

Partnerships with local colleges and restaurants are being expanded to bring cooking demonstrations, a farm to fork fundraising dinner as well as a high-tunnel structure in the PNI community garden that will provide fresh produce to the downtown elementary schools.

Hersick+Webster is responsible for creating the brand, developing the business strategy and facilitating the partnerships. We continue to organize and manage the market. In its second year, the market is growing. It has doubled its vendors and customers.
